From 13 February to 27 February 2025, the Queen Sofia Foundation Alzheimer Centre (CAFRS) will host an exhibition entitled ‘Cajal, Science and Art’, dedicated to the work of Santiago Ramón y Cajal.
The opening ceremony will take place on 13 February at 18:00. Due to capacity and organisational reasons, it is essential to confirm attendance by sending an e-mail to gerencia@fundacioncien.es before 7 February.
Dedicated to the double facet of Ramón y Cajal, winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1906, as scientist and artist, the exhibition highlights how his talent for drawing was always at the service of science. The centrepiece of the exhibition are facsimiles of a selection of neuronal drawings kept by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in the Cajal Institute.
Also on display will be a reproduction of the portrait Joaquín Sorolla painted of Santiago Ramón y Cajal. Replicas of the Nobel Medal and the Helmholtz Medal, awarded to Cajal in recognition of his impact on neuroscience and medicine, as well as some personal and family photographs that offer a closer view of Cajal's everyday life.
This exhibition, curated by the Director of the Cajal Institute, Dr. Rosario Moratalla, is part of the activities organized by the CIEN Foundation and aims to recognize the excellent scientific and artistic career of Cajal, and to disseminate the values that allowed him to become a scientific reference worldwide. The exhibition coincides with the celebration of the Cajal Year, which ends in May 2025.
