Research project for the early detection of Alzheimer's disease
Context and overview
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that impacts the lives of people and their environment, currently accounting for 60-80% of dementias. It is characterised by the formation of deposits of two proteins in the brain: Tau and β-amyloid. There are currently no curative treatments available, but in recent years new drugs are being developed that could modify its course. For the use of new therapies to be possible, we need to be able to make an early diagnosis of the disease.
Project description
The main goal of the project is to improve the prevention and diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease by integrating precision medicine tools to create strategies to identify cases of the disease in early stages.
Centres from 8 Autonomous Regions of Spain are participating in this project. To this end, two large population cohorts will be created (a digital cohort and a clinical validation cohort) made up of subjects without dementia, over 60 years of age.
Aim of the project
SCAP-AD aims to improve the prevention and early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease by integrating precision medicine tools.

Participate digitally (digital cohort)
Answer a series of questions about demographic and clinical data, and take a short test (duration approximately 5 minutes) of spontaneous language, through the SCAP-AD platform.
We recommend accessing the platform from a quiet place and using an electronic device (tablet or computer) with an integrated microphone.
This platform is free of charge and has been developed for research purposes.
Participate by coming to our center CIEN (clinical validation cohort).
Contact our centre and we will give you an appointment for a complete clinical assessment consisting of: neurological and physical examination, a neuropsychological assessment (cognitive tests), extraction of biological samples (blood, saliva, tears, hair and cerebrospinal fluid) and brain MRI.
*Participation in both cohorts is complementary to each other or independent.
