Today concludes the INLEWY - International Congress on Lewy Body Dementia Research, held in Albacete from 19 to 21 February, a leading international event dedicated to research on dementia with Lewy bodies. Researchers from the Centre for Research on Neurological Diseases (CIEN) have participated in this congress, contributing with their knowledge and experience in the study of this neurodegenerative disease.
Dr. Alberto Rábano, director of the Queen Sofia Foundation's CIEN Tissue Bank (BT CIEN), spoke on Tuesday 20 February with a presentation entitled ‘Brain tissue donation in dementia with Lewy bodies: extraction, diagnosis and classification’. During his presentation, he shared advances in the collection and analysis of brain tissue, underlining the importance of these donations for research and understanding of the pathology.
Also, Laura Saiz, coordinator of the CIEN-TB, presented the poster entitled Brain banking and research in Lewy pathology: The experience of the CIEN-TB (2010-2024), where she presented the work and contribution of the tissue bank in the research of the disease in recent years.
Meanwhile, María José López Martínez, CIEN neuropathologist, presented the poster Autopsy-confirmed Lewy body disorders and copathology: Insights from a single brain bank collection, providing relevant information on neuropathological findings in patients with dementia with Lewy bodies.
CIEN's participation in this congress reaffirms its commitment to the study of neurodegenerative diseases and the importance of international collaboration to further advance our understanding of dementia with Lewy bodies.
