Successful conclusion of the GADIR Workshop: first step towards the implementation of the GADIR Project
)
The Iberian Neuropathology Working Group Meeting - GADIR Workshop, held yesterday, 27th and today, 28th March at the Reina Sofia Foundation Alzheimer Center in Madrid, has ended with great success, marking an important milestone for the implementation of the GADIR Project, funded by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation. This event, organised by the Centre for Research on Neurological Diseases (CIEN) and co-funded by the Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN), brought together experts in neuropathology and neurological tissue banking to discuss and agree on the essential procedures that will guide the initiative in its future stages.
Key advances in collaborative neuropathology
During the two-day workshop, participants made progress in defining common neuropathological criteria and addressed fundamental logistical and ethical-legal issues for the proper implementation of the project. The GADIR Project seeks to improve the diagnostic accuracy of neurodegenerative diseases by unifying protocols and strengthening collaboration between neurological tissue banks and specialised research groups.
The workshop was attended by 12 of the 16 neurological tissue banks that are part of the GADIR consortium, as well as members of the ACE Alzheimer Center and the Iberian Neuropathology Group, reinforcing the collaborative network that underpins the project.
Workshop development
The sessions included technical discussions, specialist presentations and practical workshops designed to consolidate the methodological foundations of the project:
- On 27 March, after an institutional welcome by Mª Ángeles Pérez (CIEN Management) and Pascual Sánchez Juan (CIEN Scientific Directorate), an overview of the project was presented, followed by discussions on ethical-legal aspects, logistics, genetic procedures and review of key neuropathological criteria.
- On 28 March, in-depth work was done on the management of the REDCap database, classification of neuropathological cases and organisational issues essential for the consortium to operate.
Towards the future of the GADIR Project
The closing of the workshop has left a positive balance and a clear path towards the strengthening of scientific and methodological cooperation in the field of neuropathology. The consensus reached between the main actors of the project is a firm step towards the common goal: to improve the neuropathological classification of neurodegenerative diseases and to advance in the research of these pathologies through unified standards.
The success of this first workshop reaffirms the importance of the GADIR Project as a reference for the scientific community and a key driver of diagnostic innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Further meetings and developments will be announced soon to continue building on the foundations established in this fruitful meeting.
